Rebecca Bergey

Rebecca Bergey, Ed.D. is a researcher in the Center for English Language Learners at American Institutes for Research (AIR). Her primary responsibilities include designing curriculum, facilitating professional development, and conducting research that supports the education of English language learners and dual language learners. She serves as Deputy Project Manager for the DLL Pilot Study. She also serves has served as a co-author for Cultivating Oral Language and Literacy Talent in Students (COLLTS), a bilingual early literacy program for preschool DLLs. She has over a decade of experience working with multilingual students, as both a National Board-Certified secondary ESL teacher and trainer of pre-service and in-service teachers. She received her Doctorate in Education from University of Virginia in Curriculum & Instruction, and her capstone work focused on innovative forms of teacher professional development to prepare teachers for working with ELLs. She holds a M.Ed. from George Washington University in Secondary Education and a B.A. in American Studies/Spanish from Franklin and Marshall College. She is bilingual in English and Spanish, and participated in a one-year Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship in Xalapa, Mexico. Her publications include articles in International Multilingual Research Journal, Hispanic Journal of Behavior Sciences, Linguistics and Education, and Applied Linguistics.
